ShenScapes™ - Share the Spirit of Algonquin!

Established in 1893 as a wildlife sanctuary, Algonquin Park protects the headwaters of the Madawaska, Muskoka, Magnetawan, Amable du Fond, Petawawa, Bonnechere and York rivers. It encompasses more than 7700 square kilometres of forest, with more than 2,000 lakes and rivers and is visited by thousands annually who camp, canoe and hike its many trails and waterways. Despite its popularity, Algonquin remains a wilderness.

The Land of the Group of Seven

Early in the twentieth century, Toronto artist Tom Thomson was captivated by Ontario’s “far north.” He came to Algonquin in 1912 and began to produce the vibrant paintings for which he is best known. From 1914 to 1917, Thomson spent the spring and fall in Algonquin sketching, and worked as a guide and fire fighter in the summer.

Despite being an expert canoeist and woodsman, Tom Thomson drowned at Canoe Lake in 1917. His work inspired the founding of The Group of Seven, fellow artists who took on the task of painting the great power, scenery and spirit of this land. ShenScapes’ Algonquin Autumn is a tribute to the spirit and magnificence of Algonquin Park and area. Filmed in high-definition digital format, this DVD will transport you to highland lookouts, softly lit autumn woods and pristine streams.
